2011 UPDATE:
Happy New Year dear friends and supporters!
In 2010 Bikes 4 Life took shape. We got a great team together, had our first big event at Riva, collected almost 200 donated bikes and held our first workshop to repair and refurbish old bikes!
2011 is the year where a lot of hard work has to be done to get more bikes donated, get bikes restored and repaired, and then of course, get the bikes shipped to Africa and distributed to the people in need.
We thank everyone for their support so far and we hope to have you involved with Bikes 4 Life in the year ahead.
We are holding weekly bike workshops and BBQ's on Sunday's at our warehouse in Port Melbourne.
The BBQ's and workshops is open to the wider community, with friends, family and kids (and pets) most welcome.
Come and enjoy a snag, meet the team, fix a bike or donate a bike if you have one lying around!
Otherwise come down to volunteer - You can pick up bikes with our MAN WITH A VAN vehicle, help test, wash and repair bikes or just help us manage the project as we don;t have much time left and we have a lot of work to be done!
It really is a fun and enjoyable day for all - We are achieving a lot and it feels great. We do need more help however, so no matter what skills you have, there will be something for you to do, to help us get these bikes over to the people in need!!
If you have any queries please email info@bikes4life.com.au or contact:
Address: 8 Burwah Rd Brighton East, Victoria
Time: 12pm – 5pm

We hope to see you one Sunday!!

Check out our web site www.bikes4life.com.au for new workshops and drop off locations all over Australia!

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

We are trying to raise bikes to send to the neglected and war-torn communities in Northern Uganda's Pader and Kitgum Districts. These people are subject to extreme poverty, disease, famine, war and political instability. The bikes will go to former child soldiers in rehabilitation, orphanages and to the most isolated and needy IDP (Internally Displaced People) camps in the region.

Help save a people and add to the revival of a most neglected race yet peaceful race, known as the Acholi.

Bikes can save lives of women and children that are dying everyday due to preventable diseases...

Bikes will allow access to and from the remote locations of the camps, promoting   Community outreach and peace building.

Bikes will also be beneficial in terms of the economic recovery, aiding in areas such as agriculture.

If you have a bike to give, or even some old parts of bikes, please do so. We also will require extra materials such as bike tyre pumps, spare tyres, tools for fixing bikes, helmets and so on. If you don't have any of the above, perhaps you could make a financial donation to this cause?

We thank you for your support of a community that is, as stated by the UN, "the most neglected humanitarian disaster of all time."
