Child Troopers 2013

In 2012 we travelled to Uganda and New Zealand to continue filming for our documentary 'Child Troopers'.

In early 2013 we will continue to travel (UK & Uganda) to find out more information and hear more stories for our film.

We are also sending a 2nd container of bikes to Uganda through our partner organisation Bikes 4 Life, helping the lives of former child soldiers and victims of war.

Seeking the Truth

Our team are on the move again, traveling the globe in search of the truth and the untold, unreported stories about the war in northern Uganda, for our documentary film 'Child Troopers' (working title).

This week we will be traveling to New Zealand to conduct interviews with Ugandan expats. We then plan to visit London early January to continue our research and interview exiled Ugandans who want to tell their story, that has been silenced and suppressed by international media for far too long.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun!!

Well, a few months have passed, so quickly it seems!

We've been traveling the world, buying new equipment, working on new projects, setting up new offices and studios and getting ready for our final stage of production for our documentary, Child Troopers.

One of our most favourite purchase of recent times was in Hong Kong where we bought the Canon 5D Mark 3 camera and some lenses to go with it. We were going to wait for the release of the Black Magic Cinema Camera, but we just couldn't, and will look into getting a Black Magic next year! Our other majorly cool purchase of late was the top of the line Mac system, spec'd out beyond belief, and is basically the most kick ass system we have ever set our eyes on. It's currently being built and should be here within the next few days. Yeahhhh!!

The team are also heading to New Zealand and the Uk in the coming months to  undertake some more interviews for our documentary, Child Troopers. (www.childtroopers.com) There is also one last trip to Uganda planned for early 2013.

Our new office is located in South Yarra and we are working on setting up a green screen studio at our Richmond warehouse in the near future.

Film Crew back from Uganda

Our crew have spent the last 7 weeks away filming on location in Uganda. Our documentary Child Troopers (working title) has come a long way in 3 years and has also developed into a much more socially significant and politically charged film, focusing on sensitive, historic and contemporary issues that affect Uganda yet are being largely ignored by international media, which hinders the path to peace and justice in the region.

Forest Whitaker Says He's Got 3 Projects He Plans To Direct; One Dealing With Uganda's Child Soldiers | Filmmakers, Film Industry, Film Festivals, Awards & Movie Reviews | indieWIRE.

Forest Whitaker as General Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland

Forest Whitaker has a number of films he plans to direct, one of particular interest is 'Better Angel's'. Better Angels is a film close to Whitaker's heart and focuses on the child soldiers of Northern Uganda. In 2007 Whitaker won an academy award for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland.

Pre-production for his film is expected to begin in April of this year, and Child Troopers director Ebony Butler, is hoping to be involved with the making of the film.

Better Angels, although a fiction film, has many similarities with our documentary Child Troopers. Both have common themes based on events and situations that arose from the LRA conflict, that has seen over 30,000 children abducted and forced to become child soldiers.

Angelina Jolie Attends Historic Warlord Trial at the ICC

Angelina Jolie witnessed history in the making on Thursday when she attended a trial at the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands.

The "Changeling" actress headed to the hearing in The Hague to observe proceedings as the case against Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga, who is accused of recruiting child soldiers, wrapped up.

She tells the Associated Press, "(This is) an extraordinary moment for international justice but more than that for children of the world."

Jolie, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, is currently living in Scotland while her partner Brad Pitt films zombie movie "World War Z."

Child Troopers in Production in New York

Child Troopers director Ebony Butler has taken her human rights documentary project to the United States of America, where she has found a whole new host of supporters and interested parties.

Ebony is currently working from Hollywood Los Angeles with her local crew where she is working on Child Troopers second phase of production. She is also being mentored by some leading industry players. The impressive list of international film and TV professionals she has mustered include Shine Global CEO Mark Fennessy and Australian born, LA based director Rod Hardy. Ebony’s has 5 official mentors who have each signed on as industry specific advisors to the young director for her debut feature documentary film Child Troopers, slated for release in 2012.

As of next week Ebony will leave Los Angeles for New York and Washington DC where she has scheduled in meetings and on camera interviews with some of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, NGO‘S, political figures and other child soldier and human rights lobby groups. The line up includes: the United Nations, Human Rights Watch,Amnesty International, OXFAM and Resolve (formerly known as Resolve Uganda). There are a number of other key players, analysts and experts in the arena of international and African politics, American foreign policy and geopolitics set to meet with Ebony over the next month to discuss her film and offer unique insights into the conflict in Uganda and beyond.

Ebony in Los Angeles

Ebony has finally made it the the United States of America, to continue working on her feature documentary film Child Troopers which is slated for release in 2012.

Ebony has spent the first few days in Malibu, California, where she has been hosted by friends John O'Shei and Christopher Veitor, supporters of her work and Child Troopers the documentary in particular.

Ebony has met with our LA based crew members including producer Alec Pedersen, Todd Spradlin and Trampas Thompson and is set to start serious work this week when she moves from Malibu to downtown Hollywood. They will be working on the film and most importantly setting up meeting around the country, particularly the vital interviews with those at the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and Columbia University.

Things were sounding good, and hopefully they still are good, but from afar, there seems to be little effective action taking place.
