Child Troopers 2013

In 2012 we travelled to Uganda and New Zealand to continue filming for our documentary 'Child Troopers'.

In early 2013 we will continue to travel (UK & Uganda) to find out more information and hear more stories for our film.

We are also sending a 2nd container of bikes to Uganda through our partner organisation Bikes 4 Life, helping the lives of former child soldiers and victims of war.

Seeking the Truth

Our team are on the move again, traveling the globe in search of the truth and the untold, unreported stories about the war in northern Uganda, for our documentary film 'Child Troopers' (working title).

This week we will be traveling to New Zealand to conduct interviews with Ugandan expats. We then plan to visit London early January to continue our research and interview exiled Ugandans who want to tell their story, that has been silenced and suppressed by international media for far too long.

The export of American arms to countries around the world -- even those actively repressing their own citizens -- is booming.

Three nations with records of suppressing democratic dissent in the last year -- Algeria, Egypt, and Peru -- are listed in the report as recently receiving U.S. firearms, armored vehicles, and items from a category that includes chemical and riot control agents like tear gas. The State Department confirmed that U.S. tear gas was delivered to Egypt up to the end of November, but has declined to confirm it was also sent to Algeria and Peru.

The export of American arms to countries around the world -- what the State Department calls a tangible expression of American "partnership" -- is in fact booming. The commercial arms sales reviewed by the State Department reached $44.28 billion in fiscal year 2011, a $10 billion sales increase since 2010. Next year should see another increase of 70 percent, the department says.

Those sales -- plus the government-to-government arms exports overseen by the Pentagon -- make the United States the world's top provider of major conventional weapons, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Russia, France, and China followed behind. Much of the recent U.S. increase came from vastly expanded sales to Saudi Arabia, Brazil and India.

Forest Whitaker Says He's Got 3 Projects He Plans To Direct; One Dealing With Uganda's Child Soldiers | Filmmakers, Film Industry, Film Festivals, Awards & Movie Reviews | indieWIRE.

Forest Whitaker as General Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland

Forest Whitaker has a number of films he plans to direct, one of particular interest is 'Better Angel's'. Better Angels is a film close to Whitaker's heart and focuses on the child soldiers of Northern Uganda. In 2007 Whitaker won an academy award for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland.

Pre-production for his film is expected to begin in April of this year, and Child Troopers director Ebony Butler, is hoping to be involved with the making of the film.

Better Angels, although a fiction film, has many similarities with our documentary Child Troopers. Both have common themes based on events and situations that arose from the LRA conflict, that has seen over 30,000 children abducted and forced to become child soldiers.

Crackdown on Uganda Protests Sparks Rumblings of a Revolution

In the tradition of Africa's Big Men, Museveni - a former bush rebel who extended his mandate to 30 years when he won a disputed reelection bid in February - has determined to hold onto power at any cost, carving out new districts, usurping state funds to buy off adversaries and pay for his reelection campaign, while appearing to shrug off the concerns of his citizens, which include high and rising unemployment, endemic corruption, vote-buying and excessive government spending on the president's pet projects.
